The Grave Song

Rajiv Subramanium

There is life,
At least it's all that I can ever see now
Maggots and larvae,
They're eating me now
There was the sun
The flowers and the birds,
All through Spring and the Autumn
The Winter's cold
Just as I am now,
My life taken away.

The pain - all gone
Everything precious - gone too
Now there is grass - that's all there has ever been
And then I moved in.

A monument is what I've become
A little girl visits me on Saturdays
A flower, A note, A prayer, A tear
I am numb - there is no fear
For nine years, I've been playing it
I am good at it
I am dead... dead... dead...
